During the period 1 January to 31 December 2023, the Domestic Company Index (DCI) appreciated by 15.6% in comparison to an increase of 10.2% during the corresponding period in 2022 and the Domestic Company Total Return Index (DCTRI) appreciated by 25.5% in comparison to 18.4% during the same period in 2022.
During the period 1 January to 31 July 2023, the Domestic Company Index (DCI) appreciated by 7.1% in comparison to an increase of 3.5% during the corresponding period in 2022 and the Domestic Company Total Return Index (DCTRI) appreciated by 12.8% in comparison to 7.3% during the same period in 2022. The Foreign Company Index (FCI) increased by 1.0% on a year-to-date basis in 2023 in comparison a marginal increase of 0.7% during the corresponding period in 2022.
Global IPO’s fell by 45% following a record year in 2022, according to EY’s Global IPO Trends 2022 Report. Under the high interest rate environment, investors reallocated their portfolios to less risky assets leading to depressed company valuations and this affected many companies prospective IPO plans, the Report states. Stock markets around the world were affected in a similar manner, registering extensive declines in market returns for the year.
During the period 1 January to 30 September 2022, the Domestic Company Index (DCI) appreciated by 5.6% in comparison to an increase of 0.3% during the same period in 2021 and the Domestic Company Total Return Index (DCTRI) appreciated by 11.6% in comparison to an increase of 7.9% in the corresponding 2021 period.
During the period 1 January to 31 August 2022, the Domestic Company Index (DCI) appreciated by 5.1% in comparison to a depreciation of 2.0% during the same period in 2021 and the Domestic Company Total Return Index (DCTRI) appreciated by 9.4% in comparison to an increase of 1.6% in the corresponding 2021 period. The Foreign Company Index (FCI) registered an appreciation of 0.7% on a year-to-date basis in 2022 in comparison to an appreciation of 0.1% over the same period in 2021.
