The total trading volume for Quarter One 2024 was 118,899,466 shares with a turnover of UGX 23,999,496,815. This quarter’s turnover performance showed a 39.45% increase from UGX 17,210,453,922 recorded in Quarter One 2023. UMEME Limited had most of the activity as investors looked to take up a position on the counter given its implied value. The main movers on the index have been NSE cross listed stocks with the catalyst being the 21.89% gain against the Uganda Shilling by the Kenya shilling.

Trading in the first quarter registered a significant increase with a turnover of UGX 17,210,453,922 compared to UGX 8,428,478,756 registered in the fourth quarter of 2022. The first quarter of 2023 accounted for a total turnover of approximately UGX17.2 bn, compared to a combined total of UGX 7.3 bn that was traded between Q1 2022.

Trading in the second quarter registered a tremendous increase with a turnover of UGX13.4 bn compared to UGX 7.3bn registered in the first quarter2022. The second quarter of 2022 had a total turnover of UGX13.4bn, compared to a combined total of UGX5.9bn that was traded between April and June2021.

Trading in the first quarter registered a tremendous decrease with a turnover of UGX 7.3 bn compared to UGX 16bn registered in the fourth quarter2021. The first quarter of 2022 accounted for a total turnover of approximately UGX 7.3 bn, compared to a combined total of UGX 3.3 bn that was traded between January and March 2021.

The trading volume for March 2022 was 17,720,072 shares with a turnover of UGX 2,066,242,173. This month’s turnover performance was a 78% increase from 26,947,169 shares worth UGX 1,154,790,287 that was recorded in March 2021. Activity in March decreased 36 % compared to the turnover registered in February 2022, from 3.2 billion to 2 billion. This represents a daily average turnover of approximately UGX 93 million. Volume traded decreased to 17 million shares compared to 68 million shares traded in February 2022. The number of deals increased to 626 deals up from 475 deals executed in February 2022, with 46 per cent of the deals attributed to the UMEME counter.

The trading volume for February 2022 was 68,077,807 shares with a turnover of UGX3,223,000,328. This month’s increased by 67% compared to 69,852,234 shares worth UGX1,929,065,917 that was recorded in February 2021.
