Ghana Stock Exchange - Equities Market Report for March 2022

Market activity for the week improved compared to previous week as the benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) moved up by 0.79 points to close at 2,742.85 translating into a YTD return of -1.67%. The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) also increased by 1.43 points to close the week at 2,174.96 translating into a YTD return of 1.07%. In the aggregate, twenty-one (21) equities participated in trading, ending with no gainers and no decliners.

At last week’s auction, offers tendered were below Government’s target and accepted bids were also below the tendered bids as GH¢434.69 million was raised in 91-Day Bills, GH¢72.65 million in 182-Day Bills and GH¢220.37 million in 364-Day Bills as compared to GH¢1,064.54 million raised in 91-Day Bills and GH¢113.68 million raised in 182-Day Bills at the previous auction. Yields moved up again reflecting recent MPR announcement as rates settled at 14.14%, 14.51% and 17.11% for the 91-Day Bills, 182-Day Bills and 364-Day Bills respectively.

The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) also increased by 6.24 points to close the week at 2,173.53 translating into a YTD return of 1.01%. Four (4) equities recorded price increases against one (1) decliner, with SIC Insurance Ltd. (SIC) continuing its fine form as top gainer in 2022 by recording a 162.50% YTD return at close of trading for the week.

The benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) at the close of the week dropped 5.62 points to close at 2,738.63 translating into a YTD return of -1.82%. The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) however gained 25.52 points to close the week at 2,167.29 translating into a YTD return of 0.72%. Three (3) equities recorded price increases against three (3) decliners, with SIC Insurance Ltd. (SIC) recording a 150.00% YTD return at close of trading for the week.

The benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) at the close of the week gained 13.66 points to close at 2,744.25 translating into a YTD return of -1.62%. The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) also gained 24.79 points to close the week at 2,141.77 translating into a YTD return of -0.47%. Two (2) equities recorded price increases against two (2) decliners, with SIC Insurance Ltd. (SIC) recording a 137.50% YTD return at close of trading for the week.
