DSE | Tanzania Capital Market Annual Report 2022

    Equity turnover for the year 2022 grew by 28% to a total of TZS 133bln compared to TZS 104bln realized during 2021. The financial sector dominated activities on the market while CRDB and NMB collectively accounted for 57% of the total equity turnover (See Appendix). Foreign investments for the year accounted for 49% of the total investments while foreign divestments accounted for 51% of total divestments, leading to a net outflow of TZS 2.9bln ($1.25mln).

    The Tanzania Share Index (TSI) gained 9.1% during the year 2022 as the banking sector maintained significant growth. On the other hand, the All Share Index (DSEI) dropped by 0.8% mostly influenced by cross listed counters from the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) following the Nairobi All Share Index (NASI) dropping by 23% during the year 2022 as the NSE saw a mass outflow of foreign funds due to global economic uncertainties.
