DSE bourse has closed the month of April with a strong performance. Compared to themonth of March the current month has recorded a TZS 16.5Bln ($7.14Mln) equity turnover,more than triple the TZS 5.15Bln($2.23Mln) turnover that was generated on the previousmonth. The number of shares traded also doubled the 7.7million shares that traded in Marchto trade over 21 million shares in April.
The DSE bourse closed the first quarter of 2022 (Q122) on a positive note. The total turnovergenerated on the trading of stocks for the first quarter amounted to TZS 35.1Bln ($15.17Mln)which is a 50.66% jump from TZS 23.3Bln that was generated on the first quarter of2021(Q121). Furthermore, the volume of socks traded also improved by over 15.57% from36.8million shares traded on Q121 to 42.54million shares that traded on the current quarter.
A significant decline on the equities marketactivities has been observed in May as opposedto the records of April. The equities turnover hasdeclined by over 85% to TZS 2.4Bln from TZS17.42Bln recorded in April, although higher thanTZS 373Mln recorded in May last year. Thenumber of shares traded followed suit byrecording a 42% decline from 13.3Mln sharestraded in April to 7.6Mln shares traded incurrent month under review. The decline inturnover is due to scarcity of transactions on thebourse. The participation of both locals andforeigners was lower compared to previousmonths, but also the pre-arranged board whichhas become a great source of lucrative valueturnovers had also dried out during the month.
The total equity turnover generated in the market this week decreased by -27.67% to TZS 1,691.93 Mln from the prior week’s total of TZS 2,339.09 Mln after a total of 2,967,183 shares traded on the exchange this week. NMB was this week’s top mover after having a TZS 1.15Bln total weekly turnover, followed by CRDB and TCCL, which generated total equity turnovers of TZS 443.09Mln and TZS 57.574Mln respectively, during the week.
The total equity turnover generated in the market this week increased by 13.53% to TZS2,339.09Mln from the prior week’s total of TZS2,060.37 Mln after a total of 6,894,993 shares traded on the exchange this week.
