    Turnover and Volume

    Notwithstanding the price improvements, the equities turnover generated in May was a few bps shy of April turnover. The market in May had generated TZS 13.79Bln ($5.97Mln) from 22.77million shares, this is 16% lower than TZS 16.48Bln ($7.13Mln) hat was generated in April, although the number of shares traded in May has surpassed the 20 million shares that traded in April by 9%.

    Market Capitalization and Indices

    With regards to stock price movements, the Dar bourse has closed the month of May on a positive note, following a TZS 249Bln($107.7Mln) gain on the total market capitalization. The gain which is equivalent to 1.6% saw the market cap reach TZS 15.8Trn in May up from TZS 15.55Trn in April. The domestic stocks showed a greater speed in price improvement, as the domestic cap grew by 2.29% closing at TZS 10.44Trn ($4.5Bln), up from TZS 10.20Trn of April. Corresponding to the move, both the All-Share Index (DSEI) and Tanzania Share Index (TSI) closed up by 29.87 points and 88.38 points respectively.

    Top Movers

    CRDB which had the most activity during the month more than any counter in the market, exchanged over 17 million shares, worth TZS 7.33Bln which was over 50% of the turnover generated by the whole market at the same time the 17million shares of the counter that traded during the month, made up over 70% of total shares transacted during May.
