The stock market recorded significant activity in the third quarter where market turnover closed by 30.70 billion. This primarily resulted from many block trades traded during the period. Total market capitalization decreased by 0.96% moving to TZS 14,866.12 billion in the end of this quarter while domestic market capitalization increased by 4.61%. This conflicting trend resulted from decrease in prices of cross listed counters and increase in prices of local counters.
Similar to the market cap performance, all share index declined to 1,782.75 from 1,800.04 points while the Tanzania share index increased by 4.61%. This indicates that cross listed counters recorded a negative performance, while local listed counters recorded a positive performance in the period.
The banking sector recorded the highest performance where the Banking sector index increased by 15.29%. Commercial services and Industrial & Allied increased by 0.20% and 0.28% respectively.
